We decided to get married in Pitlochry as the village is exactly half way between where I grew up in the Highlands and my hubby grew up in Inverclyde. The setting was spectacular! The grounds are huge and there is a lovely fountain and loch for photographs. Our honeymoon suite was in one of the turrets which overlooks the valley and it was stunning! We had our ceremony in the drawing room which was bright and sunny. We hired a string quartet from Ayrshire to play the hymns. Our friend who is a minister married us and I walked down the aisle to Highland Cathedral.
Our reception was held downstairs in the Atholl Suite - plenty of room for ceilidh dancing and it is set apart from the main hotel so we didn't bother the other guests. The food was simple but delicious - a haggis parcel, beef and chocolate mousse. My mum made our beautiful cake and we hired the local florist in Dunkeld for the flowers. Our photographer was Michael John Bennett and he was amazing.
The favours were whisky for the men and bottle stoppers for the women. The wedding co-ordinators at the hotel were very helpful and the master of ceremonies they provided was spot on. If I could have changed anything I would have not lost the video camera (oops), and I would have worn my wedding dress to breakfast the next day (but I chickened out!). All in all it was a fab day, the sun shone, everyone had fun and I married the love of my life!
I could not fault the venue we had our reception at. The hotel looked like a fairytale castle, the gardens were stunning with ponds and trees. Our guests were given as much sparkling wine as they wanted.
The food at the reception was amazing, tables were beautifully set out just as we wanted and the evening buffet was more than I expected. All was at a reasonable price. They also have a beautiful spa where you can get all the treatments you want with a swimming pool indoor and outdoor.
