Responsibilities of the groom

There are a number of responsibilities that a groom needs to be aware of during the build up to a wedding as well as on the day itself. Once the question has been popped the organising begins and as the groom you will be expected to take care of certain things. Your bride to be will undoubtedly be eager to get engrossed in wedding venues, invitations, dresses and flowers and will welcome tasks being taken of her hands.

In a traditional wedding every member of the wedding party has their part to play and responsibilities to adhere to. In a modern wedding these may vary but here is a list of common grooms responsibilities.

  • Honeymoon: The honeymoon is traditionally organised by the groom. It doesn't have to be a secret surprise but by organising it you can give your fiance one less thing to get stressed about.

  • Grooms Speech: You will need to deliver a speech to your assembled guests. For some help on writing your speech see our guide.

  • Band – Entertainment: It is common for the groom to arrange the band, D.J. or whatever entertainment you are planning on having. It is also the grooms responsibilities to remember to pay the band or DJ at the end of the night.

  • Best man: The groom will need to pick a friend or family member to act as the best man on the day. Ideally someone who is close to you that can deliver an entertaining speech.

  • A gift for the bride on the day of the wedding. This can be anything from a bouquet of flowers to some jewellery
