Moira & Alistair - 3rd June 2010

Review

We planned and organised our wedding on the Isle of Mull from Surrey, so we were completely dependent on what we read and saw on the Duart Castle, Tobermory Hotel and Ewan Baxter websites and on the additional information we had been able to obtain through exchanging emails.

We arrived in Tobermory a few days before the wedding and made arrangements to speak with all those involved to confirm the final arrangements.

The approach to Duart Castle is very impressive and the photographs simply do not do it justice. We were personally shown around the Castle by the Laird, Sir Lachlan Maclean who was really keen to make our wedding a really special occasion. He could not have been more helpful, accomodating and informative.

Next we met with Andi, the owner of the Tobermory Hotel, who went through our arrangements over coffee and allowed us to taste the very reasonably priced house wines, which we immediately chose. Andi gave us a huge amount of confidence and was genuinely keen to help and support us in any way she could. She was also happy to make a few last minute changes.

Later we met with Ewan Baxter, the photographer we had contracted for our wedding. He was exactly what we had hoped, a professional photographer with an impressive portfolio and a great deal of knowledge and experience from previous weddings. Ewan is a genuinely nice person and was keen to meet our needs in every way.

Our Wedding Day was not just really good but absolutely perfect. We can not think of one thing we would change if we were to do it all again tomorrow.

We had our Wedding outside in the Castle grounds by the cannon with Ben Nevis in the background. The setting was stunning and Sir Lachlan provided some wonderful flowers together with champagne and canapes. After the ceremony our families toured around the Castle while we had photographs taken in various spots. George Noon, our piper for the day added the final touch. The setting was so perfect that many of our guests were 'blown away' by the scene.

We had photographs taken in and around the Castle and at various view points on the way back to Tobermory. Despite a number of our guests making Ewan's job quite challenging, he was polite and accomodating and clearly knew what would make a good photo.

On return to the Tobermory Hotel for our reception, we found the dining room and cake had been decorated with fresh flowers, the tables had been covered with bright white tablecloths and each place setting had a small bottle of Tobermory Whisky and chocolates. The food provided by Helen, the Chef was delicious and appreciated by everyone (Many of out guests were so impressed that they ate at the Hotel the following night as well). Helen had suggested a menu of fresh local produce and her sugestions were perfect for the day. She also provided food especially for the 4 children in our party, which went down very well.

We had a fairytale wedding and we can't thank everyone enough for all they did to make our day so special.
