Jonny and Kathleens Wedding - 26th Sept 2009

Review

We chose the Isle of Arran, specifically Corrie, as we have enjoyed many visits together over the years. It was a good opportunity to introduce family and friends to the island - most had never been before.

Corrie Church is a beautiful building and it was our first choice without a doubt. Most of the guests had booked accommodation in Brodick so we used Stagecoach buses to transport them to the church in the morning (great service and good price). My dad played the organ and friends of ours sang four songs through the service. Reverend Angus Adamson married us, and Father Noel Colford added a bible reading. The flowers were arranged by Eleanor's Flowers in Brodick, and looked fantastic.

Our photographer made good use of the sparse sunlight after the ceremony, and we are currently awaiting the arrival of the wedding album. The buses took the guests back to Brodick for the reception, at the Auchrannie House Hotel. We stayed behind for some more photos in the village and our wedding car driver (hired through the Whiting Bar Garage, very good service) stopped at various points on the road to Brodick for photogenic spots.

We arrived at the hotel to find our guests mingling in the reception bar, giving us a good chance to walk around and speak to everyone. The photographer had previously taken a picture of us and framed it, and this was set up in the reception with space for people to sign comments.

My best man and I were nervous about the speeches so decided to get them done before the meal. Otherwise we'd never eat for the nerves! Everything went fine and we all sat down to a fantastic meal - filling country vegetable soup, tender Arran beef with local vegetables, sticky toffee pudding! The drinks package meant everyone had a few choices for the meal too. The bar was well-used and thankfully well-stocked!

Our band was CeilidhDisco.com and they were amazing. At our request they played ceilidh music, with walk-throughs for the American guests who'd not been to a ceilidh before, then classic rock music for the disco. Then another half hour of ceilidh dancing towards the end, followed by Runrig and Auld Lang Syne. Very reasonable price considering we hired them from Glasgow and paid for their accommodation.

The Auchrannie's wedding co-ordinator, Sandy, and the staff all did a great job in keeping us and our guests very happy and everything went smoothly. We stayed in the hotel that night and enjoyed a great breakfast the following morning. Everyone then piled into Corrie Hotel the next afternoon for another knees-up, which lasted until the wee hours. We left the island on the Monday morning, very happy about how everything turned out! Couldn't have asked for better.
