Getting maried in Iona Abbey was amazing! The Abbey itself is stunningly beautiful as is the island. It took a lot of planning though as at the time the hotels on the island didn't do wedding packages, we had to sort out photographer, videographer, hair, makeup, decorations ourselves, however the staff in the hotel and the Abbey were extremely helpful with helping us find all of these things and passing numbers onto us. We went up 2 days before the wedding to make sure we were completely organised.
On the eve of our wedding most of our guests arrived, although some waited untill the day as we booked and paid for all the rooms for that night. The food on the day was exceptional, everyone commented on the choice how fresh it was and the service. I've never been to a wedding where the food was that good, and i've been to s few since ours! Not only that, we had a problem with our cake as it had to be transported from Glasgow and when it got to us it was not the correct colour, however the chef took it and decorated it again!
Our reception was in the town hall which my Auntie decorated on the day! We had Skerryvore play the music and invited all the locals to join in the fun which only added to the experience. Our ceilidh band cost £1000 not including their accomodation, but they were worth every penny and I would recommend them to anyone wanting an exceptional ceilidh band!
The only downside was that i didn't get some of the pictures i wanted and the videographer had to leave straight after the speeches because of the ferry times therefore didn't get the first dance ( our friends recorded it though)
Over all the whole experience was amazing, once we were on the Island it was stress free, everyone was so laid back and helpful that we've decided for our fifth anniversary to go back with our wedding band and celebrate!
