Wedding Cakes

Wedding cakes are a traditional element of a wedding, symbolising the union of two people and the sharing of their happiness with their guests. With a long history stretching back to Roman times, today's wedding cakes are a mix of old traditions and new trends.

Traditionally, the fruit in a wedding cake symbolises fertility and the top tier of the cake was saved to be eaten at the Christening of the couples first child, couple's now often chose to save the top tier for their first wedding anniversary. Other traditions include the crumbling of early wedding cakes over the bride's head!

Tiered, iced cakes become popular under a French influence and are now a standard for most Scottish weddings. These days, white, tiered, fruit cakes are, however, not the only option and are increasingly replaced by the creative imaginations of bride's. Tiered cupcakes are practical and attractive alternative to a large cake, making it easy for guests to share in the cakes.

Because so many wedding cakes are ornate pieces of art and require many hours of work, the long lasting fruit cake is not only the traditional but also the practical choice, remaining fresh until the big day. However, Lots of people aren't keen on fruit cake and would rather be able to enjoy their wedding cake so chocolate, sponge, banana, whatever cake your heart desired can be used in your cake as long as your baker can ensure the cake will remain fresh for the day.
